Today was good day, seeing the Los Bangeles tote bags on a sunny day.. We missed summer a bit this year in Rotterdam, but if autumn is like this day, it's all good.. So open up those windows and turn on this autumn anthem by Dam-Funk!

Jonwayne = Boss

Jonwayne @ The Echoplex for Friends of Friends

Heads up - this is the debut full length from LA's recent Stones Throw signing, Jonwayne and it's a peach! Jonwayne is a member of the WEDIDIT Collective, a gaggle of LA-based beatmakers counting Shlohmo and Elan in their number. 'Bowser' is the first we've heard from him, but it's sure to make a lasting impression. Evidently he's got a very unique spin on the whole West Coast psych-boogie sound, sharing a taste for the frilliest riffs with Dâm Funk, but also a a crushed 8-bit vibe nodding to Ras-G, and all wrapped up in this weirdly off-kilter tuning and beats that range from ultra-minimalist machine funk like 'Longest Night' to skewed lo-fi neck snappers like 'Trilla G'. There's also a correlation with James Pants to the extent that they're both out on their own planets in terms of juxtaposed arrangements and weirdo harmonics, but Jonwayne's sound is more in love with a modern HipHop and synths than referencing old pop like Pants. To be fair, the detuned sounds may be a bit too much for the strickly orthodox heads, but what's he's doing is actual quite individual and worthy of closer inspection. Recommended!

This dude is pretty awesome. Nasty 8 bit subbassbeats.. Checkout Bowser, Thanks Bro, Thewayniac, Remixes are things, I don't care (rap mixtape). More about Jonwayne on his site and don't forget to like him on Facebook, he def needs some more fans..

Jonti – Firework Spraying Moon

"When I think of how to write about Jonti's music, I don't feel like writing at all. I feel like drawing a picture, with watercolors and maybe crayon - colorful, abstract, youthfully curious and open to interpretation. Maybe then I'd staple, glue or nail some found objects to it, recontextualizing their intended purpose into something strange and beautiful."
– Jeremy Sole (Radio Host, KCRW)

Martyn – Ghost People (Brainfeeder, 2011)

Washington, DC DJ/producer and 3024 label head Martyn gave us the details on a forthcoming single he'll soon be releasing via Brainfeeder, earlier this month, and now, we've got the rundown on his second full-length, which will drop on October 10 courtesy of that same imprint. The album is called Ghost People, and will feature 11 tunes from the artist, which are supposedly less about "sorrows and melancholy," including one collaborative track with Kode9's partner in crime, The Spaceape. In talking about his forthcoming sophomore LP, Martyn says, "For this album, I chose things that are further away from me: the 'ghost people' theme. There are references to DJing in general. Not the jetset DJ life, but the old Paradise Garage DJ life, where people want to share and play the music they really love, regardless of if it’s trendy. Nothing fancy or flashy. Just back to the roots."

Well there it is. Martyn's 2nd album on Brainfeeder, Ghost People. Looking forward! Listen to the first single; Masks.

Howlin' Wolf

Chester Arthur Burnett (June 10, 1910 – January 10, 1976), better known as Howlin' Wolf, was an influential American blues singer, guitarist and harmonica player. With a booming voice and looming physical presence, Burnett is commonly ranked among the leading performers in electric blues; musician and critic Cub Koda declared, "no one could match Howlin' Wolf for the singular ability to rock the house down to the foundation while simultaneously scaring its patrons out of its wits."[1] A number of songs written or popularized by Burnett—such as "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Back Door Man", "Killing Floor" and "Spoonful"—have become blues and blues rock standards.

Strange Fruit presents J. Rocc

One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic, but has done just as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mid-'80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles.

Strange Fruit 6 year anniversary this Saturday (14/05/11) in Rotterdam, Westerlijk Handelsterrein.
