30 Days in September

'30 Days in September' is road trip film that takes a peek into the lives of just some of the people that I met whilst travelling over 4000 miles through 9 States in September 2010.
In the film we meet Mike Huetter in Sacramento who collects license plates to Dave Sakrison, Mayor of Moab. Then Lodi Hern in Cripple Creek, Colorado who is fighting hard to save the Old Homestead Museum from pending closure to Leonard Knight in Niland California who single handedly has created Salvation Mountain, as a message to share God's love...

Art & Copy (USA, 2009)

ART & COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, SCRATCH, HYPE!), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time – people who've profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry.

Exploding forth from advertising's "creative revolution" of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for "Just Do It", "I Love NY", "Where's the Beef?", "Got Milk", "Think Different", and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.

Tonight (April 4th, 2011) in Cinerama, Rotterdam! More info about the screening here.

Wah Do Dem (2009)

Max lives in Brooklyn. He enjoys playing soccer, skateboarding, and drinking with his friends at local bars. Last summer he and his girlfriend, Willow, won a free cruise to Jamaica but two days before the trip she dumps him cold. When his friends flake, Max winds up alone on the high seas, navigating the crowds of gray-haired cruisers. Over the course of several days he flirts with the staff photographer, drinks cocktails with the boat's celebrity juggler and has several strange encounters with the only other loner.

Maximum Overdrive (1986)

(download)
Maximum Overdrive (1986) is one of my all time Stephen King favorites. 80s action / horror at his best, a great soundtrack by AC/DC and for the designers eye some nice typography.

For 3 days in 1986, the earth passed through the tail of a mysterious comet. During that time, machines on earth suddenly come to life and terrorize their human creators. A small group of people in a truck stop, surrounded by "alive" semi-trailers, set out to stop the machines before the machines stop them.

The Way Back (2010)

Inspired by Slavomir Rawicz's acclaimed novel, "The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom" as well as other real life accounts, six-time Oscar nominated director Peter Weir's ("Witness", "Master And Commander", and "Dead Poet's Society") The Way Back is a remarkable adventure story chronicling the escape of a small group of multi-national prisoners from a Siberian gulag in 1940 and their epic life affirming journey over thousands of miles across five hostile countries. The Way Back stars Ed Harris, Colin Farrell, Jim Sturgess, Saoirse Ronan and Mark Strong. The film is produced by Joni Levin, Peter Weir, Duncan Henderson and Nigel Sinclair from a screenplay by Peter Weir and Keith Clarke.

Must be much better than 'the Green Hornet' which was pretty shitty, but entertaining though.

True Grit (2010)

Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested.
Nice accent, nice music, nice screenplay.. Directed by the Coen Brothers, starring Jeff Bridges.

Somewhere – Sofia Coppola (2010)

Somewhere is a 2010 drama film written and directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning. The film is scheduled to be released on December 22, 2010. Somewhere won the Golden Lion at the 67th Venice International Film Festival on September 11, 2010.
A hard-living Hollywood actor re-examines his life after his 11-year-old daughter surprises him with a visit.

DC Comics' RED

Based on the cult D.C. Comics graphic novel by Warren Ellis and Cully Hammer, RED is an explosive action-comedy starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. Frank (Bruce Willis), Joe (Morgan Freeman), Marvin (John Malkovich) and Victoria (Helen Mirren) used to be the CIA's top agents - but the secrets they know just made them the Agency's top targets. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. To stop the operation, the team embarks on an impossible, cross-country mission to break into the top-secret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.

Some proper explosive action and some old guys in a action graphic novel. Nice!

Forget the film, watch the titles

You know what they say about first impressions... Title sequences can be engaging or wildly entertaining, funny, exhilarating, or simply drop dead beautiful. They can be oozing with visual poetry and sophisticated imagery while others hit you hard with their bold and audacious stylistic gestures. And let's face it, everybody loves a good title sequence. This wednesday in Cinerama, Rotterdam!
